With summer coming to an end, we are all looking forward to the fall months (mostly for the exceptional weather). Many of us are excited to revel in what is left of the warm weather before winter makes spending time outside impossible – or at least unbearable – so, soon, fall shopping will commence as we begin adding pieces to our summer collections more practically designed for the inevitable drop in temperature.
However, September does not only signify the onset of fall weather but, more importantly, deserves recognition as it is the month dedicated to gaining awareness for eight different types of cancers that have affected the lives of millions across the United States: childhood cancer, gynecologic cancer, Hodgkin’s lymphoma, leukemia, lymphoma, ovarian cancer, thyroid cancer, and prostate cancer.
Saint Vintage recognizes the impact that these eight types of cancer have had on so many individuals and, as a way to give back, has made a commitment to donate 50% of all sales to Stand Up to Cancer to help fund cancer research. On our website, you can find a variety of jewelry that symbolizes much more than just merely a fashion statement.
Here we wish to pay tribute to each type of cancer, as well as provide you with a token that you can wear in support.
Childhood cancer is the disease responsible for being the number one killer of children, affecting 13,000 children under the age of 21 in the United States alone. Currently, the cause of pediatric cancer has yet to be determined, which demands an increase in cancer research! Our Honey Owl Love Strand allows you to wear gold to show your support for this terrible disease.
There are five types of gynecologic cancer: cervical, ovarian, uterine, vaginal, and vulvar. Each one is unique with diverse symptoms and forms of treatment and affect over 82,000 women. Unfortunately, cervical cancer is the only one with a screening test. All women are at risk of one of these types of cancer, although the likelihood of developing one of them increases with age. Our Berlin Love Cures bracelet has subtle hints of peach and pink to represent these different diseases.
Hodgkin’s lymphoma is a cancer that affects the lymphatic system, which is a part of the immune system. It is common in individuals from 15-30 years of age and again in 50-70 year olds. Although the cause is unknown, research continues to improve! There are 9,190 new cases reported and 1,180 deaths that occur from Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Our violet Valerie Love Cures bracelet is made from vintage beads and is stretchy to ensure comfort. Show your fight against Hodgkin’s lymphoma!
This cancer affects the body’s blood-forming tissues and there are various types of this specific cancer, which affect both children and adults. The cause (like most cancers) is unknown, but, fortunately, risk factors have been identified through research! Adorn this beautiful Golden Orange & Green Petite Fleur bracelet in support and help us fund cancer research.
This cancer, like Hodgkin’s lymphoma, also occurs in the immune system but affects the lymph system. Hodgkin’s lymphoma is one type of this cancer, but the other forms of lymphoma are referred to as non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Lymphoma impacts over 70,000 people in the United States and claims over 19,000 lives. This cancer is more likely to affect the elderly, although 16-34 year olds are also at risk. This stunning green Lady Luck bracelet will get the attention of others so that you can share what it symbolizes!
Ovarian cancer is the fifth leading cause of cancer deaths in women, affecting every 1 in 71 women. When ovarian cancer is detected early, the five-year survival rate can be up to 90%. Unfortunately, ovarian cancer is extremely difficult to detect early and only 19% of cases are found before the symptoms have spread to a late stage. The subtle hints of teal in our Helen Love Cures bracelet will go great with any outfit!
This form of cancer is not as common in the United States, but the statistics have been increasing. Most cases of thyroid cancer can be cured as it can easily be detected early on and treatments are usually very successful. The burst of color from our Rainbow of Love tassel necklace brightly shines and shows your support for thyroid cancer.
Prostate cancer affects the tissues of the prostate and is more likely to develop in older men. In fact, 80% of cases are found in men who reach the age of 80. There are 233,000 new cases reported and, although it can be successfully treated, it still claims the lives of around 29,480 men. Remarkably, there are over 2 million men in the United States that label themselves as prostate cancer survivors! These Love Drop earrings are the perfect accessory to show your support with individuals who are either currently diagnosed or have survived prostate cancer.
